Boating and paddling on Lake Lewisville
Kayaks and paddleboards go straight in off our shoreline in Little Elm. If you tow something with an engine on it, five marinas and around seventeen public ramps are a short drive away.
Boating and paddling on Lake Lewisville from the ranch
From a site here you carry a kayak down the grass and put it straight in. There is no ramp to queue for and no parking lot to walk back to.
We keep kayaks that guests are welcome to take out, so you do not need to bring your own. If you have a paddleboard, canoe or inflatable, you can walk it in off the bank.
The north end of the lake is the quieter end. It is very unusual to see powerboat traffic this far up — what goes past the park is generally our own guests — and the main body of the lake is only two or three miles away by water when you do want it.
Trailered boats and ramps
There is no boat ramp on the property. Our shoreline is for paddling, swimming and bank fishing. Lake Lewisville has around seventeen public ramps, and these are the ones nearest the gate.

Lake level moves through the year and ramps close when it drops. Check the Corps of Engineers lake page or call the ramp’s own park before you tow — we will not know the current status from here.

Pier 121 Marina rents pontoons, ski boats and personal watercraft by the day, and may be the only operation on the lake still doing it. Fleets and hours change with the season, so it is worth calling ahead to confirm.
On the water
Lake Lewisville is one of the busiest recreational lakes in Texas, and a summer Saturday shows it. Powerboats, pontoons, wakeboarding and wakesurfing, several sailing clubs and jet skis out of most of the marinas.
Hydrous Wake Park in Little Elm is a cable wake park, so you are pulled by an overhead cable rather than a boat. It is an easy afternoon whether or not you have been up on a board before.
The north end, where the ranch sits, stays calmer than the rest of the lake. We do not normally get powerboat traffic past the park other than our own guests, and the main body is a short ride — two or three miles on the water.
Quieter water
For the flat, empty version of this lake, take a kayak out from our bank between about six and eight in the morning. Herons, egrets and very little else.
The busier water is further south if you want it.

About getting on the water
Does Waterfront Hideaway Ranch have a boat ramp?
No. Our stretch of private Lake Lewisville shoreline is for paddling, swimming and bank fishing rather than launching trailered boats. The nearest public ramps are Little Elm Park, Cottonwood and Crescent Oaks at about ten to fifteen minutes, and Doe Branch, a Corps ramp with no launch fee, at ten to twenty.
Can I launch a kayak or paddleboard at the ranch?
Yes, straight off our bank, with no ramp and no fee. We also keep kayaks that guests are welcome to take out. Everyone using the water signs the ranch waiver at check-in.
Where is the closest marina to Waterfront Hideaway Ranch?
Cottonwood Creek Marina at 900 Lobo Lane in Little Elm, about ten to fifteen minutes from the gate, with a public ramp adjacent. Pier 121 Marina in Lewisville is the next closest.
Can I rent a boat on Lake Lewisville?
Yes, though there is less choice than there used to be. Pier 121 Marina rents pontoons, ski boats and personal watercraft by the day and may be the only operation on Lake Lewisville still doing it, so call ahead — fleets and hours change with the season. We do not rent powerboats at the ranch, though guests can use our kayaks.
Can I park my boat and trailer at my site?
There is room alongside most sites for a trailer, and the Premium Gold and Premium Platinum classes have the most space. If you are towing a long rig plus a boat, call the office before booking so we can put you on a site that genuinely fits both.
Do I need a life jacket on a kayak in Texas?
Yes. Texas requires a wearable US Coast Guard–approved life jacket aboard for every person on any vessel, and that includes kayaks, canoes and paddleboards. Children under 13 must be wearing theirs whenever the vessel is under way.
What are the zebra mussel rules on Lake Lewisville?
Zebra mussels are established in Lewisville Lake. Texas law requires you to drain all water from your boat, live wells and containers before leaving any public fresh water. Clean the hull, drain everything and let it dry before launching anywhere else.
Is there a cable wake park near the ranch?
Yes. Hydrous Wake Park is in Little Elm, a short drive from the ranch. It is a cable park, so you are pulled by an overhead cable rather than a boat, which makes it easier and less expensive to try.
Is the north end of the lake quieter?
Generally, yes. The heavy recreational traffic and the well-known social boating spots are further south, near Westlake Park. The north end where the ranch sits is calmer, and early mornings from our shoreline are usually flat and empty.
